Dr Monica Behrend, as an Adjunct Lecturer in Education Futures, continues to supervise research candidates. Until her retirement in 2021, Monica was a lecturer in research education with the Research Education team at the University of South Australia. Her expertise is in research writing and the crafting of high quality research texts..
Monica is an educator of 47 years of experience. In 2012, she completed her PhD in Education. Her sociocultural study focused on what happens for transnational students in Hong Kong when online resources for academic writing are integrated into a third-year computing course. The title of the thesis is 'Mediating second language writing through online resources: sociocultural influences on design and use'.
Prior to working in Research Education, Monica worked in UniSA as a Lecturer (Learning Adviser) mostly in the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment.
She has extensive experience in secondary and tertiary education sectors in Australia and the Pacific. For 8 years she taught secondary level Mathematics, Science and English as a Second Language. For another 9 years she trained secondary teachers at the University of Papua New Guinea, University of the South Pacific (Fiji) and the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education where as an Australia Award consultant she collaborated in re-establishing a Secondary Teacher Education program.
