Mohammad Istiaque Reja is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS), School of Physical Sciences, the University of Adelaide. He is also a member of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP). His research focuses on the design and development of microstructured optical fibre for sensing different physical parameters such as temperature, pressure, strain in extreme environments. He was awarded the 'Merry Wickes Transdisciplinary Prize' in 2021 for the best transdisciplinary presentation by an IPAS student. He was also awarded the 'people's choice award' in 'IPAS wide KOALA practice talk' in 2019.

Mohammad Istiaque Reja completed his BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with first-class honours at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 2011. In 2015, he received a joint masters degree in Photonic Networks Engineering at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Italy and Aston University, UK, with the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Scholarship from European Commission. From 2011 to 2013 and 2015 to 2019, he was with the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh as a faculty member.
