Dr Mikaela Fudolig
Lecturer
School of Mathematical Sciences
College of Sciences
I am a Lecturer at the School of Mathematical Sciences, and I work in the field of computational social science. My research interests are quite varied but all fall under the same theme of understanding human behaviour through digital traces and cultural artifacts. I have worked on data from wearable devices, social media, books, call detail records, and surveys. In my research, I have employed a variety of tools, including techniques from statistics, machine learning, network science, and signal processing.
I am currently working on understanding the early stage of awareness of intimate partner violence and how effective anonymous online communities are in facilitating the victim-survivor's actions in escaping the abuse. The project involves gathering expert annotation and using large language models as well as other techniques in natural language processing.
In addition to the research I am heading, I have also co-mentored students who work in domains adjacent to computational social science, such as urban planning and data journalism.
