I am the Lecturer for the Pathway Programs in Whyalla. I am passionate about creating a welcoming, collaborative space on campus and connecting with and supporting students to demystify, manage, and, hopefully, enjoy their university studies. Previously, I worked as a Learning Advisor for both the University of Adelaide and UniSA, as well as taught courses in Creative Writing, Film and Adaptation, and Literature at the University of Adelaide.
Acting as Research Assistant, I have recently been involved in two research projects in Whyalla: “Whyalla: a flourishing City” in collaboration with Whyalla City Council; and “Aboriginal Energy Literacy as an Indicator of Wellbeing Pilot Study” in collaboration with Dr John Binda Reid and the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corporation (GRAC). The latter used a methodology encapsulating the concept of ngapartji-ngapartji – or the ‘3R’s’, respectful, reciprocal relationships (Reid 2023) – which are core traditional values embodied by native animals and Aboriginal people when they respectfully share the waterhole. This concept and experience have influenced my teaching approach.
I have a BA (Honours) in International Studies from Monash University and a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Adelaide. In 2022, the creative component of my thesis was published as Bird Bones with Glimmer Press. I have also had numerous short stories published.
