May is an experienced researcher in the field of managing psychosocial factors at work and promoting psychological health and safety. Her research primarily focuses on Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC), job design, and occupational health and well-being. May has substantial international experience in both research and public engagement. She has collaborated with institutions and delivered invited talks across Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, and Australia (Victoria), engaging with government departments, universities, and professional organizations. Her research on psychosocial safety, occupational health, and workplace well-being has attracted media attention. Through these activities, she contributes to advancing evidence-based policy and promoting healthy, safe work environments globally. May has published articles in top-tier journals in the field, such as the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Safety Science, book chapters, and editorial. In recognition of her excellence in research, she received the Anthony Mainguené–CIECST Foundation's International and Multidisciplinary Thesis Award in 2023, as well as the University of South Australia's Tony Winefield PhD Thesis Prize in Psychology. May serves as a Section Editor for the journal Stress & Health, was a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo, and was a plenary speaker at the 18th Annual Conference of the Asia Pacific Employee Assistance Round Table in Bali, Indonesia. She is currently the Executive Officer of the Asia Pacific Academy for Psychosocial Factors at Work (APAPFAW).May is currently working on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Project under Professor Maureen Dollard, focusing on the international and national determinants of decent workplaces. Together with Professor Dollard, she secured international funding through the "Australia–Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme" from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Universities Australia. Additionally, May has received nominations for the UniSA Research and Enterprise Excellence Award (2022) and the UniSA Justice and Society Champion Award (2020).Additionally, she collaborates with several organizations as an external academic consultant, offering guidance and recommendations for their PSC development projects—some of which have received awards from the Australian Institute of Health and Safety and the Australian Psychological Society.
