Matt graduated with a Bachelor of Science (major: Nutrition minors: Human Movement and Applied Microbiology) from the University of South Australia in 2007 and then graduated with a Master of Dietetics from the University of South Australia in 2014. Matt commenced his PhD in July 2022 in the Facility of Health and Medical Sciences at The University of Adelaide, evaluating enteral protein delivery in the critically ill.
