College of Engineering and Information Technology
As a member of the AI and Software Engineering Laboratory (now part of the Industrial AI Research Centre) I was awarded my PhD in 2016 for my thesis entitled “Formal Models from Controlled Natural Language via Cognitive Grammar and Configuration”. For my PhD, I developed methods for computer-based understanding of textual software requirements with the aim of reducing errors and ambiguities in requirements, which cost substantial amounts to fix later in the software engineering process. Some of my PhD work was published in Elsevier's Information Systems journal. In 2015, I was awarded with 'Best Student Paper' at the International Conference on Conceptual Modelling (ER'15).
Aside from my PhD topic, I have coauthored publications for projects on data interoperability in the Oil & Gas industry by integrating principles of Ontologies and Multi-level Modelling. The aim of which is to support the lifecycle activities of capital facilities, e.g. oil refineries, including the Digital Handover of design specifications from Engineering/Procurement/Construction organisations to those involved in the operation and maintenance of the such facilities. I am continuing this work as part of UniSA Industrial AI and the Australian OIIE Interoperability Laboratory, through which we provide shared infrastructure for development and testing, research, and conformance testing of systems leveraging the OIIE (Open Industrial Interoperability Ecosystem) Specifications.
My current research as a Foundation Fellow in the Future Energy Exports CRC (FEnEx CRC) supports digital transformation and interoperabilty to enable I4.0 and beyond for hydrogen and the Energy industry more broadly. Projects include the development and demonstration of Specifications for Interoperable Analytics; the digital management and interoperablity of business clusters to improve cooperation and coordination between organisations allowing them to scale and achieve advanced supply chains; and frameworks for dynamic risk evaluation and work optimisation for industrial plants.
I also enjoy teaching and have been running the advanced programming course in C++ for the past few years, in which I introduce students to advanced concepts and try to relate them to the real-world requirements of Software Engineering.
Currently Foundation Fellow in the Future Energy Exports CRC (FEnEx CRC) supporting projects in the area of digital transformation and interoperabilty. The focus is enabling I4.0 and beyond in hydrogen plants and the Energy industry more broadly.
