I am a second year PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide within the marketing discipline. Having completed my bachelor's degree in psychological sciences, my doctoral research adopts a cross-disciplinary approach and unites these two research passions.Currently, I am focused on exploring student motivation in higher education and tertiary learning settings. My work examines a range of emerging factors: psychological, social, institutional etc. that may influence student motivation levels. By bridging together my research and practice, my research outcomes strive to empower educators and policymakers to foster future student success.

Literature has revealed a global decline of motivation among tertiary level students. The research project aims to understand the key emerging resistance factors as well as drive factors within students. Current motivation frameworks focus on a two-factor relationship (i.e. when one factor increases, the other decreases), ignoring the dynamic nature of human motivation. A fluid, multi-factor conceptual framework of motivation is proposed, enhanced through semi-structured interviews and a large-scale survey of Australian tertiary level students. Findings hope to establish a root cause of motivation decline as well as potentially influence policy makers to change education approaches within tertiary institutes.
