College of Science

Dr. Mahmoud Adel Hamza Elsayed Gharib obtained his BSc and MSc in chemistry from Ain Shams University (Egypt) in 2013 and 2018, respectively. He was appointed as a teaching assistant at the Chemistry department, Ain Shams University (2014-present), and in parallel, he worked as a research assistant at the Energy Materials Laboratory, the American University in Cairo (2018-2021). He obtained his PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Adelaide, Australia (2021–2025). His current research at the Photo-Cat group is direct to the synthesis of visible-light-active photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications, including H2 production, biomass valorization, PFAS degradation, and dual-functional photocatalysis. Currently, his research is focused on visible-light degradation of PFAS.

My research belongs to the materials sciences and photocatalysis, where my work is focused on the rational design and preparation of advanced photocatalysts for energy/environmental applications including, solar fuels production (e.g. Hydrogen production) and wastewater treatment.
