Dr Madhan Balasubramanian is a NHMRC Sidney Sax Research Fellow based at the University of Sydney (http://sydney.edu.au/health-sciences/about/people/profiles/madhan.balasubramanian.php). He holds Visiting Research Fellow Appointments at the University of Adelaide and Kings College London.

Madhan Balasubramanian (MB) is a NHMRC Sidney Sax Early Career Fellow (2017-21) with support from the University of Sydney (Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Dentistry) and a conjoint status with the Western Sydney Local Health District. He also holds Visiting Research Fellow appointments with the University of Adelaide and Kings College London.

MBs interests lie in the intersection of health policy, health systems and oral health services. He brings an excellent track record, relative to opportunity. Just under two years since the completion of his Ph.D., he has 26 scientific publications. MB has won three nationally competitive Australian Government fellowships, with the latest being a 4 year prestigious NHMRC Sidney Sax Fellowship. Overall, he has received half a million Australian dollars in nationally competitive fellowships (as CIA), in addition to scholarships and academic prizes. MB has supervised and mentored seven postgraduate students; peer-reviewed scientific articles (for about 20 journals), actively participated in professional associations (5 organisations) and engages proactively with the community through social media (over 2000 active followers)..

  • Research Interests

Madhan has won three highly competitive Australian Government Fellowships: Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Fellowship, Department of Education and Training’s Endeavour Research Fellowship, and a National Health and Medical Research Council Sidney Sax Early Career Research Fellowship.  

I hold or have held teaching responsibilities in three major institutions. In the University of Adelaide, I have tutored Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Oral Health (all years) in four courses: Behavioural, Social and Professional Aspects of Dentistry, Community Dentistry, Evidence Based Dentistry and Fluoride. I have also conveyed and lectured four courses for Masters of Health Care Management and Hospital Administration students (Griffith University and Apollo Hospitals Group), including Introduction to Public Health, Research Methods and International Comparisons of Health Systems. I bring demonstrated ability to coordinate, convene such courses and assess students.
