Ms Lucy Farrar

Lecturer

School of Allied Health and Human Performance

College of Health

Lucy Farrar is a Lecturer in Speech Pathology and a PhD candidate whose research investigates the social construction of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) through discourse. Her work draws on critical discourse analysis, ethnography, and critical disability studies to examine how adolescents with DLD are positioned within educational and clinical contexts, and how these discourses shape identities, practices, and interventions.

As a speech pathologist, Lucy’s practice focuses on improving language and literacy outcomes for children and young people, with particular interests in child language, literacy, and inclusive practice. She has led the design and delivery of innovative school-based speech pathology services and contributes to curriculum leadership at the University of Adelaide. Lucy coordinates and teaches across multiple courses, including Linguistics for Speech Pathology A (Year 1), Linguistics for Speech Pathology B (Year 2), Speech Pathology Assessment and Management B (Year 3), and the final-year Capstone assessment. She also teaches into the interdisciplinary Allied Health program.

Her broader research interests include health education, language and literacy development, and critical approaches to disability and health.
