Dr. Linh Dang joined the Lysosomal Health in Ageing under Associate Professor Tim Sargeant at SAHMRI in 2022. She became affiliated with the Adelaide Medical School, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, at The University of Adelaide in 2025. Dr. Dang completed her PhD in Immunology at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. Her research focuses on assessing autophagic flux in primary cells and developing autophagic flux assays for blood samples. She also investigates the effects of nutritional and pharmacological factors on autophagy in primary cells and their related outcomes. Currently, she is studying the role of autophagy in T lymphocyte differentiation, with a particular emphasis on generating stem cell-like memory T cells.

My current research under Associate Professor Tim Sargeant focuses on measuring autophagy in humans during aging through blood tests and biomarkers to determine whether changes in autophagy are associated with aging and whether autophagy levels can be modulated pharmacologically or nutritionally. We have successfully developed a method to measure autophagic flux in individual cell populations in blood, which is protected under the provisional patent Methods and Products for Assessing Autophagic Flux (Sargeant T, Dang L; Australian Provisional Patent 2024900604, PCT/AU2025/050203).

Additionally, I am investigating autophagy levels in immune cells, including T lymphocytes and monocytes, with a particular focus on the role of autophagy in T cell differentiation. This research emphasizes the dual roles of mTOR and autophagy in T cell activation and differentiation, as well as exploring the use of autophagy inducers to promote the generation of stem cell-like memory T cells.
