I am a PhD candidate interested in the ecological restoration of marine ecosystems. The large-scale recovery of South Australia's lost oyster reefs provides the foundation for my research, with my PhD focusing on how a holistic approach to restoration can improve the outcomes of restorative efforts to produce self-sustaining systems that are biologically complex and highly functional.
Oysters, canopy-forming kelp, and abalone fall under the arc of this restoration work. I'm investigating the potential benefits of species interactions, techniques to enhance and scale-up restorative methods, and a blue carbon assessment of the oyster restorations and surrounding systems.
