My research focuses on the development of upscaled mathematical models for CO2 storage in heterogeneous porous media, with an emphasis on the optimization of storage capacity and the long-term safety of CO2 storage sites. This work is vital to the field of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), a critical component of global efforts to mitigate climate change by reducing carbon emissions from industrial sources. I study the effects of chemical reactions on CO2 migration and its interaction with the geological environment, addressing the challenges of ensuring long-term containment of CO2 in subsurface formations. By improving the accuracy of models used to predict CO2 behavior in porous media, my work aids in understanding how to maximize storage capacity while minimizing risks such as leakage or contamination of groundwater. As the global demand for climate change mitigation strategies rises, my research stands to play a pivotal role in providing both academic and practical solutions to these complex environmental challenges.
