I am currently a lecturer and course coordinator in UniSA Creative with a focus on communication teaching and research. In the 2023 Public Relations Institute of Australia Golden Target Awards, I won Bronze in the national Educator of the Year category. I was also also awarded the 2023 UniSA Online One Team Award which recognises a person who has: fostered cooperation, collaboration and open communication within the unit and/or wider university, gone beyond the scope of their regular duties to assist other members of the unit or the university and created a great team environment that promotes communication, trust and cooperation.
Since 2009, I have been a lecturer and course coordinator at tertiary institutions in Adelaide, Melbourne and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Committed to student-centred learning, in 2015 I was a finalist in the Student Choice Excellent Teacher Awards for the UniSA Division of EASS and directed an industry award-winning project in 2012 which encouraged students from two Australian universities to actively engage in volunteer work and international aid.
As Program Facilitator at UniSA Online in Business and Creative, I had managerial responsibility for a portfolio of degrees which have included the Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Digital Media, Bachelor of Business (Economics, Finance, and Trade), and Bachelor of Business (Tourism, Event Management, and Hospitality). I provided leadership to Online Course Facilitators and their teaching teams in these degrees.
Previously a communication manager for the Federal Government, I bring to my teaching over a decade of practitioner experience. I have been an active member of Communication and Public Relations Australia (CPRA) having served as an elected state councillor for a number of years (when the Public Relations Institute of Australia). My PhD research explored the changing communication needs of academics in work-integrated learning. Other research interests include social media management and change management.
I am a dedicated Rotarian, serving as Director, International for one of the largest and oldest Australian clubs, the Rotary Club of Adelaide.
My two streams of research examine communication practices in complex contexts and Work-Integrated Learning teaching innovations. In 2022 I completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Social Sciences) at the University of South Australia, my research examines the communication practices of academics in engagement with industry stakeholders.
