PhD topic: Exploring the value of midwifery-led continuity of care for bereaved families who are pregnant after perinatal loss.
Fifty percent of families who have lost a child due to termination for medical reasons (TMFR), stillbirth or neonatal death embark on a subsequent pregnancy within twelve months of their loss. This is a pregnancy experience fraught with grief and bereavement, but also incredible anxiety and stress. My PhD thesis seeks to explore how the midwifery continuity of care model can support parents through this pregnancy experience, and how having a named caregiver can help alleviate the psychosocial stressors during a pregnancy after loss.
I working under the supervision of A/Prof Clemence Due & Dr Siobhan Loughnan (Centre for Research Excellence in Stillbirth, Mater Mothers, QLD).
