I am an epidemiologist and health data scientist, currently working as a Gunn Research Fellow in the Discipline of General Practice at Adelaide University. My current projects involve the MedicineInsight database, an electronic medical records (EMRs) collected from general practices across all states and territories in Australia. Before this, I worked as a Research Fellow in Epidemiology at Charles Sturt University from 2022 to 2025. During this time, I contributed to several large population health projects, including analyses of linked administrative datasets such as PLIDA (with the Australian Bureau of Statistics) and the 45 and Up Study with the Sax Institute. I was also involved in a clinical trial evaluating the Online Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) program for rural families affected by substance use. In addition, I worked on studies exploring digital health interventions for long-term conditions in rural and remote Australia. I also used WHO STEPS survey data to study cardiometabolic health and abdominal obesity at a global level. Earlier in my career, from 2010 to 2018, I worked in academic roles in Ethiopia as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Public Health. I taught biostatistics, research methods, and health care management to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
