My PhD dissertation compares Māori and Aboriginal stories from the past in which communities used alphabetic literacy for political activism and civic engagement. My prior History Honours thesis researched how Māori language immersion schooling emerged from community initiatives.

My Māori iwi affiliations include: Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Arawa, Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Maru, and Tainui.
