My research interest is understanding the neural codes which underlie electrical communication in the brain. Neurons communicate by firing tiny electrical spikes and releasing neurotransmitters. The information contained within those electrical spikes depends on the neural code, and different approaches to coding information through spikes come with their own strengths and limitations. In my research, I use the dragonfly brain as a simple model system, to investigate how the strengths and limitations of the neural code influences animal behaviour in the real world.
