Joel is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide and full time academic researcher at Flinders University within the Jeff Bleich Centre for the US Alliance in Digital Technology, Security and Governance.

Joel's research focuses on how nations' legislate for commercial space activities, contemplate their international obligations, and promote private activities in outer space.

Joel previously worked at an Adelaide-based law firm on corporate and commercial legal issues including transactional law, privacy and data protection, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance.

Joel is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide and full time academic researcher at Flinders University within the Jeff Bleich Centre for the US Alliance in Digital Technology, Security and Governance. 

Joel's research focuses on how nations legislate for commercial space activities, contemplate their international obligations, and promote private activities in outer space with a particular focus on the evolution of Australia's legal regime. 

Joel specialises in assessing and critiquing international domestic legal regimes (including those in place in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and a number of European nations) applicable to non-governmental space activities including launch, spaceflight and private scientific and exploration activities. 

Joel also researches in the areas consumer protection, competition law and privacy law.
