PhD opportunities in multidisciplinary engineering research

The Smart Water Network (SWN) research group, as part of the Intelligent Water Decisions Research Group, is devoted to support smart decision making in our water sector through conducting fundamental and practical research. Based in the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering (CEME),and led by Prof Martin Lambert, the SWN research group is a world leader in the area of hydraulic transient analysis and its application to pipeline leak detection and condition assessment. The SWN research group has been closely collaborating with researchers in other disciplines and industry partners to address multidisciplinary research problems and foster a collaborative and supportive environment for PhD students.

Multiple PhD opportunities are available for graduates who want to contribute to the smart management of our water infrastructure through innovative research. The PhD candidates will conduct analytical, numerical and/or experimental research to address scientific problems associated with the topic of pipeline leak detection and condition assessment. The multidisciplinary research group welcome graduates with a relevant background and interest in one or more of the areas: fluid mechanics, acoustics, mathematics, inverse theory, signal processing and electrical & electronic engineering. The PhD program will be customised to suit individual’s interest and strength. Top-up scholarships and travel scholarships are available and based on academic merit.

PhD graduates will have access to diverse career pathways. Job opportunities will be available in (but not limited to) the following sectors: water utilities, consulting or engineering companies, governments, research institutes and universities.
