Cytochromes P450 enzymes are a super-family of heme-thiolate– containing proteins or haem monooxygenases that can be found in almost all living organisms.P450 enzymes have significant roles in the synthesis of biosynthetic pathways for natural products, steroid hormones, drug metabolism and degradation of xenobiotics. My research aims in screening, engineering, and directed evolution of the catalytic activity of P450 enzymes in the synthesis of natural substrates.P450s peroxygenases can utilize H2O2 as a cheaper alternative to oxidize substrates into useful substances. Overall, my study will focus on investigating the cytochrome P450-catalyzed activity which is important in natural product synthesis.
