Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD - email supervisor to discuss availability.
Dr Jenna Malone is a Senior Mortlock Fellow with the Weed Science Research group at the University of Adelaide. She works on understanding and management of herbicide resistant weeds, with a focus on the evolution and inheritance of molecular resistance mechanisms.
Weeds present one of the largest costs to agriculture, with expenditure on weed management and yield loss caused by weeds estimated to cost Australian grain growers over $4 billion annually. Herbicides are by far the most effective weed control tools and therefore the most widely used weed management practice of growers. However, a consequence of the extensive use of herbicides for weed control has been the evolution of herbicide resistant weeds.
Weeds can evolve resistance to herbicides via a variety of mechanisms, and my research focuses on the investigation and understanding of the biochemical and molecular processes involved in these resistance mechanisms.
For more information, visit the Weed Science Research Group website.
I am available to supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students to work on various projects spanning weed management, herbicide resistance, identifying mechanisms of herbicide resistance and herbicide tolerant crops. Projects can be designed to suit the student's interests. Please contact me directly with an expression of interest (jenna.malone@adelaide.edu.au).
