Dr Jenna Malone is a senior postdoctoral fellow with the Weed Science Research group at the University of Adelaide. She works on understanding and management of herbicide resistant weeds, with a focus on the evolution and inheritance of molecular resistance mechanisms.

Weeds present one of the largest costs to agriculture, with expenditure on weed management and yield loss caused by weeds estimated to cost Australian grain growers over $3 billion annually. Herbicides are by far the most effective weed control tools and therefore the most widely used weed management practice of growers. However, a consequence of the extensive use of herbicides for weed control has been the evolution of herbicide resistant weeds.

Weeds can evolve resistance to herbicides via a variety of mechanisms, and my research focuses on the investigation and understanding of the biochemical and molecular processes involved in these resistance mechanisms.
