James is a PhD Candidate with the Weed Science Research group at Adelaide University. He is working on the inheritance, mechanisms and management of bixlozone resistant Annual Ryegrass (Lolium rigidum).

In Australia, it has been estimated that weeds cause an annual revenue loss of >$4.4 billion and their impact is likely to be even greater now due to widespread evolution of herbicide resistance. My research focuses on Annual Ryegrass (L. rigidum), which is the most problematic weed of the southern Australian cropping region and its recent development of resistance to the relatively new-to-market herbicde, bixlozone.

As herbicides are considered the backbone of weed management in conservation cropping, their sensible and sustainable use, integrated with other management techniques will be essential in maintaining food security into the future.
