Having a relative admitted to hospital is usually a stressful and difficult time. When a healthcare professional has a ‘significant other’ admitted, the context is different. There may be different expectations by those caring for the patient and the health professional who is the relative. This issue will be examined with a systematic review which will contribute to a portfolio of study for a Doctor of Nursing.
The project research question is; ‘What are the experiences of healthcare professionals when their significant others are admitted to acute hospital?’ The results of the systematic review will guide the subsequent studies.
