My research focuses on Interprofessional Learning (IPL). IPL has been defined as occurring “when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care" (CAIPE, 2002, Barr, 2013). IPL has become a high priority in health care in response to the need for health care professionals to collaborate in order to meet complex patient needs. To be successful, IPL needs to be embedded within the health professional curriculum, rather simply added on.
I have a number of years of experience in IPL, both at Flinders University and at The University of Adelaide. When I worked at Flinders University, I was a member of the Faculty of Health Sciences Interprofessional Education group (which was a collaboration with GP Plus). This research included the development of an Interprofessional Capability Framework.
My specific interest in IPL is the focus on the patient and how the patient voice is viewed by the various participants in IPL (e.g. students, lecturers, clinical supervisors).
