I am researching the pregnancy journey for women with pre-exisiting diabetes and how we can improve pre-pregnancy counselling. I am a mental health social worker and diabetes educator with over 16 years experience working in diabetes and mental health. I have also lived with type 1 diabetes since 1979 and am a blogger, writer and diabetes advocate. I founded an online diabetes counselling service in 2001 and am a leader in online support in health. I was an Australian of the Year state finalist for this work in 2016 and have spoken internationally about the impact of diabetes on wellbeing and mental health. I have a popular blog and community at www.diabetescantstopme.com The aim of my research is to contribute to improved outcomes for women with pre-existing diabetes and their babies through improved uptake and access to pre-pregnancy counselling.
