Teaching Strengths
Mr Harry Roesch
Lecturer in Physiotherapy
School of Allied Health and Human Performance
College of Health
I am a dual-titled Musculoskeletal and Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist with clinical experience spanning private practice, elite sport, and military health. Alongside clinical practice, I am a Lecturer at Adelaide University, where I teach across the Bachelor, Graduate Entry, and Master of Advanced Clinical Physiotherapy programs, with a focus on musculoskeletal assessment, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based management.
I hold a Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy and am currently undertaking a PhD investigating the acute effects of exercise on the Achilles and Posterior Tibialis tendons using diagnostic ultrasound. My research aims to improve our understanding of tendon adaptation and support evidence-informed clinical practice.
Whether working with patients or teaching future physiotherapists, my goal is the same: to translate evidence into practical clinical decision-making and help clinicians develop the confidence and skills to deliver high-quality musculoskeletal care.
Research Highlights
- Current (PhD) – Investigating the acute effects of exercise on tendon morphology, mechanical properties, and blood flow in the Achilles and Posterior Tibialis tendons using diagnostic ultrasound.
- Current – Collaborating on clinical musculoskeletal research, including studies investigating low back pain clinical care in the Australian Defence Force, with current work under peer review.
- 2025–2026 – Conducted a reliability study evaluating diagnostic ultrasound measures of the Achilles and Posterior Tibialis tendons, including B-mode imaging, Doppler ultrasound, and elastography.
- 2025 – Published systematic review on the acute response of the asymptomatic Achilles tendon to exercise using diagnostic ultrasound.
- 2017 – Published original research investigating the acute effects of exercise on Achilles tendon dimensions and vascularity using diagnostic ultrasound, contributing early evidence on tendon adaptation to mechanical loading.
