Haolan Xu studied at the Nanjing University of Technology where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2003. He then studied at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Science, obtaining his PhD in Materials Chemistry and Physics in 2008. Haolan was the recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (2008). He studied at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG) Potsdam, Germany (2009-2010). He joined UniSA in January 2011. He was awarded Australia Research Council (ARC) DECRA in 2012, UniSA Foundation Fellow in 2015, and ARC Future Fellow in 2019. His research interests include Solar-thermal energy conversion and applications; photothermal materials; photocatalysis; sensors; colloid and interface physical chemistry; emulsions.
