Guilherme Pena (MD, PhD) is Vascular Surgery Registrar at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) and Affiliate Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He completed his MD in 2009 at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) and his PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2022. His clinical research was recognised with the Philip Walker Vascular Surgery Research Scholarship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019.

Dr Pena is a clinical academic expert in vascular surgery, wound management, and surgical simulation training, with 19 publications in the last 10 years (10 as first author). He wrote the Royal Adelaide Hospital practice guidelines for proximal bone collection during amputation (200 surgeries per year), and his research has also altered practice in vitamin assessment and supplementation for patients with diabetes-related foot disease at RAH, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH), and FMC. His first-in-Australia health economic analysis of the health system costs of lower-limb amputation is currently used to inform efficient triage of patients with diabetes-related foot disease to the RAH. He is now lead clinical investigator on a grant from the Medical Research Futures Fund to trial a new technology for cleansing diabetes-related foot wounds to prevent infection.
