Giulio Ponte is a Research Engineer at the Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) where he has worked in road safety since 1995. He has a degree in mechanical engineering and a graduate diploma in transport and traffic engineering. Giulio has considerable experience in at-scene crash investigation, vehicle-pedestrian safety assessment and has an ongoing involvement in the pedestrian testing program undertaken for Australasian NCAP. Most recently Giulio has been involved with the examination of the potential benefits of various vehicle technologies, particularly autonomous emergency braking, mobile phone blocking devices, automated and advanced automated crash notification systems. Giulio has been involved in pilot studies on the effectiveness of intelligent speed adaptation systems, the use of event data recorder information to supplement mass crash data and examining in-vehicle distracted behaviours using specialised video recording equipment.
