Gimhani Danushika currently working on Development of new and simplified methods for characterization and the quality control of graphene related 2D materials (GR2Ms)  under the supervision of Professor Dusan Losic, Dr Pei Lay Yap. She followed a B.Sc. (Special) in Environmental Management at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and completed her M.Sc. Degree (by Research) in 2020 in Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

Her undergraduate degree research was based on the Performance Assessment of a Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sludge Management technologies, and focused on Phthalic Acid Esters in Urban Watercourses of Colombo and their Treatment in her master's degree. She used nano TiO2, modified coal fly-ash, and graphene oxide to remove six types of Phthalate Acid Esters from wastewater, which are strictly harmful to water ecosystems as well as humans through food chains. Moreover, she is well-acquainted with Gas Chromatography analysis, and characterization of nanomaterials using EDX, ESEM, and FTIR techniques to identify their behaviours in pollutant removal as well as the behavioural changes in plastics with degradation.
