Gerardo is a PhD candidate in Chemistry at the University of Adelaide, specialising in DNA chemistry through both analytical and computational approaches. His research focuses on characterising and designing DNA-binding oligonucleotides using a combination of experimental and computational techniques.

Originally from El Salvador, Gerardo earned his BSc and MSc in Chemistry from Nagoya University, Japan, where he conducted research on NLS-PNA conjugates with the Shoji Group. He then gained two years of hands-on experience in Japan's chemical manufacturing industry before embarking on his PhD journey in 2022 with the Pukala Group at the University of Adelaide.

With a passion for lifelong learning and problem-solving, Gerardo's interests span multiple disciplines. He is fascinated by the natural sciences, social and environmental issues, animal welfare, data science, literature, sports, music, and more, reflecting his broad curiosity and dedication to knowledge.
