Dr Emma Thornton is a post-doctoral researcher in the Translational Neuropathology Laboratory within the School of Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Her research interests include acute and chronic brain injuries, and as such supervises both PhD and Honours students undertaking projects in neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury, stroke and brain tumours. Currently, Emma also works as a scientific advisor to a small drug company where she is involved in facilitating a novel drug for traumatic brain injury through phase I clinical trials.

Dr Thornton is a post-doctoral researcher in the Translational Neuropathology Laboratory within the School of Medicine. Her research uses pre-clinical models to elucidate the mechanisms involved in acute and chronic brain injuries including Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, concussion and stroke to develop new therapies that may improve outcome. She also supervises PhD students who research the mechanisms involved in the growth of primary brain tumours as well as metastatic spread of cancer into the brain.

Dr Thornton has taught into the Health and Medical Sciences and Nursing programs primarily on the neurodegenerative disease, Parkinson's disease, however has also taught about respiratory and skin conditions.
