Elaheh Heshmati
Higher Degree by Research Candidate
School of Biomedicine
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
Elaheh is a nutrition researcher with a strong background in clinical nutrition and public health. After completing her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in nutrition science, she worked for seven years as a clinical nutritionist, applying evidence-based dietary strategies in clinical settings. During this time, she gained extensive experience in nutrition counselling, education, and the development of tailored nutrition education materials. She also conducted community-based nutritional surveys, further refining her practical skills and deepening her interest in the scientific foundations of nutrition.
In 2021, Elaheh commenced her PhD studies at the University of Adelaide under the supervision of Professor Amanda Page. Her research focuses on gastric vagal afferent signalling in the regulation of food intake, with a particular emphasis on the modulatory role of the satiety hormone leptin. Throughout her research, she has developed advanced expertise in animal handling, electrophysiology, microscopy, imaging, and a range of molecular biology techniques, including RNA extraction, PCR, and proteomics.
Elaheh is passionate about advancing metabolic and nutritional science through innovative, interdisciplinary research. Her long-term goal is to contribute to improved health outcomes by bridging clinical insight with laboratory-based research in the fields of nutrition, biochemistry, and physiology.
