Dylan Henderson is an Australian pianist and early-career researcher with a passion for promoting discourse between performance and musicology. He recently completed his performance-based PhD at the University of Adelaide, graduating in September 2023. During his candidature, Dylan was the winner of the Chopin Study Competition for Young Researchers (presented by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, in association with the School of Arts & Sciences, University of Pennsylvania) and the Naomi Cumming Prize for Postgraduate Research (presented by the Musicological Society of Australia/SA Chapter); gave a two-hour all-Chopin recital by candlelight at UKARIA Cultural Centre; and performed Chopin’s Concerto in F minor, Op. 21 with the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. Following the submission of his PhD, Dylan received a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Research Thesis Excellence, and was recently awarded the 2023 University Doctoral Research Medal for outstanding research at the PhD level. His scholarly publications include 'A "Narrow-Keyed" Pleyel: The Ergonomics of Chopin's Interface' in The Chopin Review, and ‘“Espaces Imaginaires”: Chopin’s Damper Pedal and the Haze of Dreams’, selected for publication in the forthcoming Chopin Institute conference book Romanticism in Music: Poland in its European Context, edited by Professor Jeffrey Kallberg.
