  • Alternative Contact: Hi Everyone, My name is Douglas Pierre, and I serve as a member of the academic teaching staff in the Health Sciences division at Unisa. Since 2016, I have been involved in instructing various programs in Health and Psychology, both online and on campus, with a particular emphasis on Health, Exercise and Sport Psychology as well as Aboriginal Health and Practice. My research work primarily concentrates on the processes of stress, anxiety, sports performance, and coping mechanisms in elite athletes. I have recently partnered with fellow researchers to explore the roles of partners as elite athletes transition into retirement. My latest academic publication in 2025 is a research paper titled  "What about me? The impact of being the partner of an elite athlete throughout their career and into retirement from sport." Upon finishing my Postgraduate program, I have held several positions in Sport Psychology across different countries, including the UK and the Seychelles, primarily focusing on elite athletes in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rugby. In these roles, I have effectively collaborated with a diverse range of professionals within multidisciplinary teams, creating best practice frameworks and strategies for clients facing a variety of physical and psychosocial challenges. This year marks my ninth year of teaching at UniSA, during which I have engaged in various academic programs and enhanced my skills in Course Development through collaboration with the Academic Team, Course Coordinators, and Online Education Designers. I am a professional member of the South Australian Sport Medicine Association and the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counselors, and I am part of the South Australian College of Sport and Exercise Psychology (CoSEP) team. Additionally, I founded "Athlete's Mental Edge," an educational online platform aimed at supporting athletes and coaches across diverse sports and levels, allowing me to collaborate with athletes globally.  I look forward to share my expertise with you.   Best wishes, Doug Pierre.   University of South Australia.
