Dr Dorothy Turner

Post Doctoral - Researcher Lecturer

School of Biological Sciences

Faculty of Sciences

Dr Dorothy Turner comes from a background as an industry computer analyst/programmer. Dorothy is now a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide in the School of Biological Sciences.

She specialises in landscape-scale remote sensing and GIS analysis, spatial simulation modelling and spatial decision support for natural resources management. Her research interests include fire regimes in desert Australia, wetlands and vegetation condition monitoring. She was also a major contributor to an ARC Linkage project “Cardiac ARIA”, measuring accessibility to cardia services Australia wide.

Recently Dorothy completed a Goyder Institute project “Developing ecological response models and determining water requirements for wetlands in the South-East of South Australia: Landscape Scale Analysis”. Recent projects for DEWNR include “Remote sensing of groundwater dependent ecosystems in the western Lake Eyre Basin”, “Mapping areas of dieback in the Fleurieu Peninsula Swamps” and "Mapping areas of Great Artesian Basin diffuse discharge”.

Dorothy is currently working on another ARC Linkage project: "Wombats as a model for evidence based management of native fauna".

Dorothy Turner has been the recipient of 13 awards/recognitions (five national and eight international) since 2008. These include four South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards, an Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Award, and the American Heart Foundation’s Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing (CVSN) - Clinical Article of the Year Award.
