1. SMILE birth cohort study (NHMRC Project Grants # APP1046219 2013-17 and APP1144595 2018-22). I am CI-D and CI-C, respectively.
SMILE is a population-based birth cohort study of children born in Adelaide between 2013-14. A total of 2181 mother/child dyads have been recruited. Supported by the NHMRC Grant # APP1046219, parental questionnaires at child age of three, six, 12, and 24 months collected comprehensive data on socioeconomic factors (SES), dietary, general and dental health behaviours of mothers and children, and social environment. A three-day dietary diary was used at 12 months and a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) was used at 24 months. An oral epidemiological examination and anthropometric measurement of children and their mothers were conducted at 24 months.
The second stage of the study has been funded by NHMRC Project Grant # APP1144595 2018-22. Children and their mothers are undergoing another round of oral and anthropometric examinations at the age of five years. A questionnaire with FFQ collects comprehensive data on SES, general and dental health behaviours and practices, use of dental services and quality of life. Another round of questionnaire and examinations is planned for the age of seven years (2021-22).
2. NCOHS Followup Study (NHMRC Project Grant # APP1161581 2019-21). I am CI-C. This NCOHS followup study aims to investigate effect of early life exposure to fluoride on child psychological and intellectual development. The whole NCOHS sample will be recontacted. Questionnaires and interviews will be used to collect data.
