Debabrata Karmokar received a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Macquarie University, Australia. He began his academic career at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) as a Lecturer in 2007 and was later promoted to Assistant Professor. Additionally, he served as the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Welfare at KUET.
From 2012 to 2015, he held various roles at Macquarie University, including Casual Academic, Research Assistant, and IEEE Student Branch Secretary. Between 2016 and 2019, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Global Big Data Technologies Centre (GBDTC), University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Ultimo, NSW, Australia.
In 2019, He joined the School of Engineering at Macquarie University as a Lecturer. In 2020, he moved to the University of South Australia (UniSA), where he served as a Program Director within UniSA STEM from 2021 to 2025. Currently, he is a Program Director in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) at Adelaide University.
He has been active in the IEEE community, serving as Counsellor of the IEEE UniSA Student Branch from 2020 to 2025 and as Vice-Chair of the AP/MTT Society of the IEEE South Australia Section since 2023. His previous roles include Treasurer of the IEEE NSW AP/MTT Society (2020) and Secretary of the IEEE South Australia AP/MTT Society (2022).
He has been recognised with numerous scholarships, research grants, awards, and honours, including the Young Scientist Awards from the Venus International Foundation (2018), URSI (2019), and PIERS (2025). He won First Prize in the Poster Competition at the Macquarie University Engineering Symposium in 2015. Dr Karmokar has also contributed significantly to organising international conferences, guest-editing journals, and currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Access.
