David Freer

Mr David Freer

Lecturer

Adelaide Nursing School

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

David began working in the Royal Adelaide Hospital Emergency Department (ED) as a Registered Nurse after completing his Master of Clinical Nursing (pre-registration) at the University of Adelaide in 2015. His desire to provide better care and more effectively advocate for his patients led him to complete a Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing in 2019. David quickly became a leader within the ED and resuscitation area; providing ongoing support and mentorship for junior nurses progressing through roles within the ED, managing the equipment nurse portfolio, and being an active member of resuscitation committee.

Throughout his clinical career, David always had a passion for education. He was a leading member of the post-graduate support group and regularly provided in-service education to his colleagues. David valued his clinical simulation experiences and strived to coordinate and participate in simulation-based education wherever possible. In 2022, an opportunity arose to pursue simulation-based education with the nursing simulation team at the University of South Australia (UniSA). While working at UniSA, David became actively involved in a quality improvement research project focusing on debriefing in simulation.

In January 2024, David joined the University of Adelaide where he is excited to coordinate the Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science (Emergency Nursing). He continues to be involved in simulation research at UniSA and is eager to see the impact of the research and potential applicability of the research findings to the clinical setting.
