College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities
My current research interest is the musicological study of sacred music in the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, in particular the empowering nature of melodic chanting central to the ancient Chod (Severance) tradition, a liturgical spiritual practice popular amongst monatics and lay communities of Vajrayana practitioners.
My research will seek to explore methodologies to understand such ancient spiritual traditions and cultural practices in an authentic manner through an interdisciplinary approach, in order to facilitate their preservation and dissemination in modern communities.
My research interests also include international relations, Chinese language studies, translation theory and practice, Buddhist studies and philosophy; as well as historical, cultural, social, religious, and political studies related to Mongolia, China, and the Himalayan region.
