Dr Daniel Brown

ARC Grant-Funded Researcher B

School of Physical Sciences

Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology

Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD - email supervisor to discuss availability.

Daniel obtained his PhD from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2016. There he worked on developing the new optical modelling software FINESSE (www.gwoptics.org/finesse) which is used for developing and debugging precision interferometric experiments, such as LIGO. Following this he undertook research position in the UK Quantum Hub studying how to enhance atom interferometers with optical cavities. Part of this time was spent visiting the 10m atom fountain experiment at Stanford, USA. He then returned to Gravitational waves in 2017 taking up research post at the the University of Adelaide.

He is the chair of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration Advanced Interferometer Working group since, and Co-Chair for Einstein Telescope Low-Frequency optical design and control scheme.

His research interests are primarily in enhancing gravitational wave interferometers to observer more of our universe. Whether this is through developing new computational tools and techniques to commissioning and installation of hardware at the LIGO sites.
