Senior researcher, School of Chemical Engineering
Cristiana serves as leader of the 'FOX' research project Trace elements in iron oxides: deportment, distribution and application in ore genesis, geochronology, exploration and mineral processing'. Research interests include iron-oxide mineralogy, the genesis of ore deposits, development of new mineral geochronometers and the investigation of rocks and minerals at the nanoscale using transmission electron microscopy.

I received my Ph.D. in 2000 from The University of Bucharest, and followed this with a NATO Post-doctoral research fellowship at the Norwegian Geological Survey. I also lectured in Economic Geology at the Norwegian Technical & Natural Science University, Trondheim, Norway.

I arrived in Adelaide in August 2005 to take up an ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellow position, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Adelaide, Australia / South Australian Museum (Order-disorder behaviour in Bi-tellurides: a tool to monitor gold scavenging by Bi-Te melts). I moved to the University of Adelaide in 2010 to take up a Research Fellow role within the Deep Exploration Technologies Cooperative Research Centre (DET-CRC), Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. I worked on a full-time consultancy project for BHP Billiton Olympic Dam before moving to the School of Chemical Engineering in January 2015 to lead the project ‘Trace elements in iron oxides: deportment, distribution and application in ore genesis, geochronology, exploration and mineral processing (the ‘FOX’ project)’, funded by BHP Olympic Dam and the Government of South Australia Mining and Petroleum Services Centre of Excellence.
