Charlotte Chalklen is a lecturer and course coordinator of Media Law and Ethics (COMM 2076) and tutor of various journalism and communication-related courses (Journalism Reserach Capstone, Advanced Professional Writing) at UniSA Creative. She has worked in a wide variety of roles in industry and academia, including journalist and editor, media coordinator, communication consultant, tutor, and research assistant.
Areas of expertise include news and feature writing, media law and ethics, social media and privacy, and diversity in the creative industries. Her thesis examined Facebook use by mothers of young children (see Mothering on Facebook: Exploring the Privacy/Openness Paradox). Other recent publications include My Year of Rest and Relaxation: ‘sad-girl’ fetishism or ‘cuttingly funny’ feminist satire? in The Conversation, The devil is in the level: understanding inequality in Australia’s Film, TV and Radio industries in Media International Australia, A Creative Turn for Tourism and Closing the Gender Divide for UniSA Business Magazine. 
In her teaching she aims to engage, inform and empower students to build upon their own unique strengths to forge successful careers in the exciting and rapidly-evolving media and professional communication landscape.
