I am a PhD candidate in mechanical engineering, biomedical discipline. My research investigates the biomechanics of traumatic brain injury by linking head kinematics, brain deformation, and pathology. We have developed a large animal model of rapid head rotation with and without direct head impact, and methods to measure high-rate brain deformation in vivo. Using this model, we seek to better understand how head motions lead to traumatic brain injury pathologies, and to produce high resolution in vivo data to improve the validation of computation models.
