Chano Ranwala is looking into how non coding variants in regulatory elements contribute towards complex common epilepsy types. With around 1 in 200 people being affected, the mechanism of action of 50% of cases remain unknown due to complex genetic aetiologies. Therefore, improved insight on the underlying genetics of common epilepsies is vital for better prognostics, diagnostics and therapeutics in patients. Outcomes her work aims to improve the understanding of the genetic landscape underpinning common epilepsy.
