Dr Catalin Tufanaru, M.D., MPH, MClinSci (EBHC), PhD, is Research Associate at Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), Faculty of Health Sciences, at University of Adelaide. Catalin has previously worked as General Practitioner, Public Health Specialist and Researcher. He has been widely involved with multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary working in the fields of evidence-based healthcare, health policy analysis, clinical practice guidelines development, health promotion and social marketing. Catalin is the first author of a book on conducting systematic reviews of economic evidence (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, 2011), first author of a book on statistics for systematic reviews (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, 2012), author of a book on health policy analysis (Transilvania University Press, 2009), co-author of a book on organizational marketing and social marketing (Iuliu Hatieganu Medical University Press, 2007), and one of the co-authors of the European Union Network of Health Technology Assessment EUnetHTA Handbook on HTA Capacity Building (EUnetHTA, Barcelona, 2008).

Catalin is the scientific administrator of the Mental Health Node and General Medicine Node of the JBI Connect collection of point of care evidence for practice.

Catalin is an accredited JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review (CSR) trainer with more than five years CSR teaching experience. He is an accredited JBI Clinical Fellowship trainer.

In the last three years Catalin was involved in extensive methodological research regarding the influences of Husserlian phenomenology in qualitative health research and the philosophical foundations of the JBI meta-synthesis by meta-aggregation (the influences of the philosophical ideas from American pragmatism and Husserlian phenomenology).

He is Associate Investigator at NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Aboriginal Chronic Disease Knowledge Translation and Exchange (CREATE).

Catalin is a Research Affiliate at The Critical and Ethical Mental Health (CEMH) research group, the Robinson Research Institute, the University of Adelaide.

In the last five years Catalin peer reviewed more than 100 systematic review protocols and systematic review reports.

Catalin is involved in the new initiative Restoring invisible and abandoned trials (RIAT initiative). The report of the RIAT re-examination of Study 329 is available as open access full text article from BMJ.
