Buddhika is a PhD researcher in the School of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at Adelaide University. His research focuses on the digital transformation and sustainable management of the built environment. His work investigates how emerging digital technologies can enhance building performance, improve energy efficiency and reduce operational carbon emissions.
His doctoral research focuses on developing an integrated digital twin approach for university buildings by combining Building Information Modelling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT) sensor data, Building Management System (BMS) information, energy simulation and machine-learning techniques. This approach aims to enable real-time monitoring, predictive analytics and evidence-based decision-making to support building operations and facilities management.
He completed a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Quantity Surveying with First Class Honours at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Following his graduation, he gained professional experience in the construction industry as a consultant quantity surveyor in Sri Lanka. Before commencing his doctoral studies, he also worked as a temporary lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, where he contributed to teaching and other academic activities in quantity surveying and construction management.
