Binoy's research addresses both evolving and interlinked environmental sustainability issues around climate change, food security and environmental quality. Over the past 15 years, he has engaged in developing and testing novel nature-based methods for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, storing more carbon in agricultural and forestry soil, improving soil quality and plant production, and cleaning up conventional and emerging pollutants in soil and water. He combines laboratory, glasshouse, and field trial studies with modelling and highly specialised experiments at national research facilities and take a multidisciplinary approach to provide solutions to farmers, plantation growers, industry partners, and policy makers.
Binoy’s published work includes more than 220 refereed articles (Google Scholar h-index = 88), including in Nature and Nature Plants journals describing CO2 capture and simultaneous biogeochemical improvement of soils through enhanced weathering of soil-applied silicate minerals. His work on novel use of clay minerals for contaminants remediation generated an international patent and several highly cited journal papers. He was listed as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate in 2023.
Binoy holds a PG Certificate in Teaching for Learning in Higher Education and has co-ordinated and taught undergraduate and post-graduate courses in soil and environmental science areas at Lancaster University, The University of Sheffielfd and UniSA.
